On the 17 January 2013, Conservatives Abroad, Sydney Branch was delighted to host a table at a luncheon held by the Australia British Chamber of Commerce for the Right Hon. William Hague MP, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs at the Hilton Hotel Sydney. This is Mr. Hague's third visit to Australia, his second as Secretary of State. The luncheon was attended by Mike Todd the Sydney Branch Chairman, James Connell the Hon. Secretary & Treasurer and 6 other Branch members and guests. In discussion with Mr. Hague, Mike Todd noted "Between now and 2015 our aim is to grow the Sydney Branch to a level where we can make a significant contribution to the Conservative Party and its campaign in the General Election that year."
Mr. Hague remarked that he was pleased to see that the Sydney Branch had grown considerably since his last visit in 2011. Mr. Todd congratulated Mr. Hague on his third visit as Foreign Secretary and his second visit to Sydney noting that no Labour Foreign Secretary visited during their term of office.
This was the first Branch function of 2013 and the Chairman noted that it was good start to another year of events.
As the Branch goes from strength to strength, events such as these help to build the reputation of the Sydney Branch, attract new members and most importantly identify overseas voters. All those present at the lunch enjoyed themselves and look forward to attending upcoming Branch events in 2013.
