Lady Thatcher 1925 - 2013
Conservatives Abroad pays tribute to Baroness Thatcher whose death was announced this afternoon and extends condolences to her family at this very sad time. Margaret Thatcher ‘The Iron Lady’ was the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain, Leader of the Conservative Party for 15 years and Prime Minister for 11 and a half. Lady Thatcher was known for unwavering belief in her policies, a champion of freedom and liberty and her legacy will live on, not just in the United Kingdom but across the world.
Lady Thatcher was remarkable, she was determined and she was controversial.
“Let us not kid ourselves, she was a very divisive figure,” said Bernard Ingham, Thatcher’s press secretary for her entire term. “She was a real toughie. She was a patriot with a great love for this country, and she raised the standing of Britain abroad.”’
Conservatives Abroad was created during Margaret Thatcher’s term as Prime Minister in 1985 and now has members all over the world, many of whom were inspired by her unique political leadership.
