Dale Dines Down Under: Iain Dale and Sydney Conservatives Abroad

Tuesday, 14 June, 2011

Commentator, broadcaster, writer, blogger, candidate, activist – it’s hard to ignore the insightful and prolific Iain Dale, one of Britain’s leading Conservatives outside Parliament. During his recent three week visit to Australia, the local media certainly didn’t ignore him either.

His comments on Australian politics and politicians sent shockwaves through the local media and body politic. As a result, the Sydney branch of Conservatives Abroad was very keen to have Iain as our special guest for our annual dinner at the Royal Automobile Club, just a few steps from the Sydney Opera House.

With our biggest branch function since our “Election Night” breakfast in 2009, members and friends of Conservatives Abroad enjoyed hearing Iain’s views on the current British political landscape, as well as enjoying a “compare and contrast” discussion on politics in Britain and Australia. Iain’s insights to the current state of play in Westminster were warmly welcomed by branch members who keep the Tory flame burning a long way from home.

The annual dinner will in future be named after William Yates, who was almost uniquely both a Conservative member of the House of Commons, and a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives.

Branch members also had great pleasure connecting with Bromsgrove MP, Sajid Javid, while he was in town recently. We always look forward to rolling out the red carpet for other visiting Conservatives – MPs, Peers, officials, activists – when passing through. Just drop me a line on alexander_drake@hotmail.com
