Conservatives Abroad Conference in Krakow, Poland
A highly successful 2010 Conservatives Abroad Conference was held in Krakow, Poland commencing with a Dinner on Friday evening hosted by Timothy Kirkhope MEP and the European Conservatives & Reformists Group. Over 70 delegates attended the Conference from 15 countries and Chairman Caroline Abel Smith OBE welcomed everyone to Krakow before handing over to Marek Matraszek who, as Chairman of Conservatives Abroad Poland, hosted the weekend.
Fascinating addresses given by the three Guests Speakers, Timothy Kirkhope MEP, Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the ECR Group, Tobias Ellwood MP, PPS to the Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP Secretary of State for Defence, and Mike Dolley, Deputy Director Campaigning at CCHQ, generated a large number of questions.
During the Branch Report session it became very clear that the message to be taken back to London was the increasing frustration at the disenfranchisement of so many British Citizens living overseas for more than 15 years who are unable to vote, and also the necessity for a much simpler method of registering to vote.
Michal Kaminski MEP., Chairman of the ECR Group, was host and guest speaker at the Dinner held on Saturday evening in the renowned Wierzynek Restaurant.
The weekend concluded for many delegates with a tour of the concentration camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau on Sunday. Tobias Ellwood MP laid a wreath on behalf of the Conservative Party.
